However, we often have a few musicians who drop out during the set for various reasons. By opting-in to a standby seat, you will join us during rehearsals, and will join us for the concert if another musician has dropped out.

It is likely you would be able to join us, but we cannot guarantee a place in the concert.

Civic Strings Fall 2024 – Corelli, Bach and Wilson

Rehearsals for this set are on September 30, October 7, October 14, October 28, November 4, November 11, November 18, November 25, December 2, December 9.

Please join us for the Civic Strings Fall 2024 set. Michelle Maruyama will be returning as conductor.

PROGRAM:
Corelli, Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 8 "Fatto per la note di natale"
Bach, Concerto for Oboe, Violin and Strings in c minor, BWV 1060R
Christopher Wilson, Suite for String Orchestra

This fall, Civic Strings will present Corelli's "Christmas Concerto" and Bach's Concerto for Oboe and Violin, two of the most beloved Baroque works for strings. The vivid energy and the serene beauty found in these pieces are mirrored in a relatively undiscovered piece, Christopher Wilson's Suite for String Orchestra. Christopher Wilson was a brilliant pianist best known as a composer and music director for theatre. His Suite for String Orchestra nods to the neo-Baroque, with a Bouree and Rigaudon, but has a lush expressiveness and virtuoso flair -- for every section, but particularly for the First Violins! Civic Strings is a deep dive into String Playing, the miraculous genre which one moment sounds as unified as an organ, and the next is intricate and busy, each section fighting for the spotlight! We strive to develop a keen musical acumen and learn simple technical choices to bring the music to life. Parts can be found in the link below, and will be supplemented with practice recordings for your rehearsal preparation.
